                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Houston's Milby High School boys' basketball team
    1-2  achieved outstanding success in the 1992-1993 season, posting a
    1-3  superlative record of 31 wins against only six defeats and earning
    1-4  a coveted spot in the University Interscholastic League Class 5A
    1-5  state championship tournament; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, During the regular season this superb squad claimed
    1-7  the District 19-5A championship with an impressive 12-2 mark; the
    1-8  team continued its exceptional efforts in the state high school
    1-9  playoffs, earning bidistrict, area, and Region III titles; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Facing eventual state 5A champion Dunbar High School
   1-11  of Fort Worth in the semifinal round, the Milby team members played
   1-12  with determination and intensity before narrowly losing the
   1-13  hard-fought contest 72-65, but their performance and their
   1-14  sportsmanship earned them the respect and admiration of all those
   1-15  who witnessed this memorable game; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, The season's notable accomplishments were a result
   1-17  of total team effort and selfless contributions from members Sam
   1-18  Benitez, Ariel Bedoy, Omar Thomas, Shawn Langellise, Louis Stewart,
   1-19  Lee Hardy, Donta Randle, Donald Driver, Rodney Dupre, Roger
   1-20  JnMarie, Steve Brown, Hilroy Francis, Jarvis Kelley, Duane Perkins,
   1-21  James Lewis, and Tim Jones; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Inspiration and guidance were provided throughout
   1-23  the season by head coach Boyce Honea, who instilled in his charges
   1-24  the desire to give their utmost on the floor, and he was ably
    2-1  supported in his efforts by assistant coaches Charles Williams, Jim
    2-2  Duffer, and David Schoenfield; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, Other invaluable off-the-court assistance was given
    2-4  by managers Janice Dunn, Jamie Hicks, and Felicia Williams and by
    2-5  trainer Jason Fowlkes; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, The 1992-1993 edition of the Milby High School boys'
    2-7  basketball squad continued the fine tradition of excellence in
    2-8  statewide competition established by Honea-coached teams during his
    2-9  remarkable 20-year tenure at the school; over the years, his teams
   2-10  have posted an average of 24 victories each year for an enviable 72
   2-11  percent winning record and have captured 10 district titles,
   2-12  advanced to the regional tournament five times, and made two trips
   2-13  to the state tournament; and
   2-14        WHEREAS, The exemplary group of young men who formed this
   2-15  year's team and their coaches and staff have been a source of
   2-16  tremendous pride for the students and faculty at Houston's Milby
   2-17  High School and the many supporters in the community, and their
   2-18  exceptional accomplishments have rightfully earned them special
   2-19  legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
   2-20        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-21  Legislature hereby congratulate head coach Boyce Honea and the
   2-22  Milby High School boys' basketball squad on their noteworthy
   2-23  achievements during the 1992-1993 season and extend to them best
   2-24  wishes for continued success in the future; and, be it further
   2-25        RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
   2-26  for the members of the team and coaching staff and that a copy be
   2-27  prepared for prominent display at Milby High School as an
    3-1  expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
