                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes special
    1-2  pleasure in congratulating Dr. David M. Tripp for receiving a 1993
    1-3  Outstanding Teaching of the Humanities Award; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Given to only six teachers each year by the Texas
    1-5  Committee for the Humanities, this prestigious honor recognizes
    1-6  outstanding contributions to teaching, curriculum development, and
    1-7  extracurricular programs in the fields of art, history, literature,
    1-8  foreign languages, government, and social studies; it also provides
    1-9  stipends to these educators and their schools, to be used toward
   1-10  professional development and curriculum development; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, A truly deserving recipient of this award, Dr. Tripp
   1-12  has inspired, guided, and illuminated the lives of his students at
   1-13  Lamar High School in Arlington for five years, bringing enthusiasm,
   1-14  encouragement, and considerable expertise to his humanities and art
   1-15  classes; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, After pursuing his undergraduate studies in art at
   1-17  Northeast Missouri State, this exemplary educator attended
   1-18  Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he received a
   1-19  master's degree in theology in 1980 and a doctorate in biblical
   1-20  literature in 1987; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Dr. Tripp is active in such professional
   1-22  associations as the National Education Association and the Texas
   1-23  State Teachers Association and is a former member of the National
   1-24  Art Educators Association, the Texas Art Educators Association, the
    2-1  Society of Biblical Literature, and the American Academy of
    2-2  Religion; greatly respected by students and colleagues alike, he
    2-3  was recognized for his exceptional contributions to biblical
    2-4  scholarship in 1980, when he received the Stella P. Ross Memorial
    2-5  Award for New Testament Studies; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, Dr. Tripp challenges his students to think and act
    2-7  with confidence, courage, and independence, and his many
    2-8  contributions to humanities education are indeed worthy of special
    2-9  legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
   2-10        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-11  Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. David M. Tripp on his
   2-12  designation as a 1993 Outstanding Teacher of the Humanities; and,
   2-13  be it further
   2-14        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-15  prepared for Dr. Tripp as an expression of high esteem by the Texas
   2-16  House of Representatives.
