H.R. No. 734 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Peggy Dreher Hosek will retire from her post as 1-2 State Representative Dan Kubiak's secretary and office manager on 1-3 Friday, May 28, 1993, bringing to a close a remarkable career that 1-4 has spanned nearly a quarter century of noteworthy service to the 1-5 people of her community and to their elected state representatives; 1-6 and 1-7 WHEREAS, An outstanding student at Rockdale High School, 1-8 where she gained the notable distinction of sharing an 1-9 unprecedented and since unmatched three-way tie for valedictorian 1-10 of the graduating class of 1951, she married her high school 1-11 sweetheart, Jerry Hosek, while still in school, and the couple was 1-12 blessed by the birth of two lovely daughters, Debbie and Karen; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Having devoted herself for many years to the care 1-14 and upbringing of these two daughters, she ventured into the realm 1-15 of state politics for the first time in 1968, when she joined the 1-16 legislative staff of then newly elected State Representative Dan 1-17 Kubiak; and 1-18 WHEREAS, She immediately distinguished herself both by her 1-19 hard work and dedication and by her exceptional ability in 1-20 attending to Representative Kubiak's responsibilities in the 1-21 district office in Rockdale; combining a friendly and outgoing 1-22 personality with a singular devotion to her job, she was one of the 1-23 legislator's most important assets in maintaining the close ties 1-24 with his Central Texas constituency that have characterized his 2-1 terms in office; and 2-2 WHEREAS, When L. B. Kubiak succeeded his brother Dan as the 2-3 area's state representative in 1982, he wisely retained the 2-4 services of Mrs. Hosek, thereby ensuring a high degree of 2-5 continuity in the transition period and allowing the incoming state 2-6 representative to hit the ground running in his first term in 2-7 office; and 2-8 WHEREAS, This idea worked so well to the advantage of the 2-9 district's constituents the first time around that, when Dan Kubiak 2-10 resumed his old seat in the Texas House of Representatives, 2-11 Mrs. Hosek was there to see that he would pick up where his brother 2-12 L. B. Kubiak had left off; in this regard, Mrs. Hosek played an 2-13 instrumental role in ensuring nearly a quarter century of 2-14 uninterrupted representation in the state capital for the 2-15 district's many residents; and 2-16 WHEREAS, Calm, poised, and extremely dependable, she not only 2-17 has been an effective office manager for Dan and L. B. Kubiak, 2-18 running the district office smoothly and efficiently and freeing 2-19 them to attend to their constituents' interests in Austin, but has 2-20 also set an outstanding example to the other members of the staff, 2-21 showing the utmost regard for the district's constituents by going 2-22 above and beyond normal expectations; and 2-23 WHEREAS, The epitome of a public servant for the past 25 2-24 years, Mrs. Hosek will be profoundly missed by her appreciative 2-25 boss, the many admiring coworkers who were privileged to have 2-26 worked with her through the years, and the countless citizens of 2-27 Central Texas who benefited by her cheerful and constant dedication 3-1 to the public good; now, therefore, be it 3-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 3-3 Legislature hereby honor Peggy Dreher Hosek for her exemplary 3-4 record of service to the citizens of Central Texas and extend to 3-5 her the warmest best wishes on the occasion of her retirement; and, 3-6 be it further 3-7 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-8 prepared for Mrs. Hosek as an expression of high esteem by the 3-9 Texas House of Representatives. 3-10 prepared for Mrs. Hosek as an expression of high esteem by the 3-11 Texas House of Representatives. 3-12 Kubiak 3-13 H.R.
