                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
    1-2  Jack Dayle Miller, whose retirement on May 30, 1993, will draw to a
    1-3  close an outstanding tenure that has spanned more than two decades
    1-4  as a teacher and administrator with the Burkeville Independent
    1-5  School District; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, A graduate of Lamar University, Mr. Miller joined
    1-7  the school district in 1969 and taught math briefly at Burkeville
    1-8  Elementary School, where he gained valuable insight as a classroom
    1-9  instructor before assuming the duties of principal at the school;
   1-10  and
   1-11        WHEREAS, In this capacity, he has enjoyed a long and
   1-12  rewarding tenure with the district that has been highlighted by a
   1-13  host of significant achievements and an overall dedication to duty
   1-14  that has earned him the lasting respect and admiration of students,
   1-15  faculty, and his many friends in the community; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, This experienced and compassionate professional also
   1-17  demonstrated exemplary leadership while serving for a period as the
   1-18  special education director for the district, helping to fulfill the
   1-19  special needs of the learning disabled; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, In addition to the many demands of his work as a
   1-21  principal, Mr. Miller also has shared his considerable
   1-22  instructional skills with students seeking a General Equivalency
   1-23  Diploma in nighttime adult education classes; and
   1-24        WHEREAS, An esteemed member of a number of professional
    2-1  organizations, including the Texas Elementary Principals and
    2-2  Supervisors Association and the Burkeville Elementary School
    2-3  Parents-Teachers Organization, he also is a cherished fraternity
    2-4  brother of Phi Delta Kappa and a valued member of the Church of God
    2-5  in Burkeville; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, Throughout his exceptional career, Mr. Miller has
    2-7  received the loving support of his beloved wife, Verline, and the
    2-8  couple's four children, Dayline, Dana, Phillip, and Jimmy; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, This remarkable gentleman plans to remain active
   2-10  after his retirement pursuing a variety of interests that include
   2-11  travelling and enjoying the company of his wife, children, and five
   2-12  grandchildren; he also intends to further develop the insurance
   2-13  business he has established in Burkeville; and
   2-14        WHEREAS, A talented and hardworking professional, Mr. Miller
   2-15  has presided over more than two decades of educational progress in
   2-16  Burkeville and displayed extraordinary commitment to his students
   2-17  and to the ideal of academic excellence; a man of tremendous
   2-18  dedication and intelligence, he is indeed deserving of special
   2-19  praise and legislative recognition for his many significant
   2-20  achievements in the field of education; now, therefore, be it
   2-21        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-22  Legislature hereby commend Jack Dayle Miller for his outstanding
   2-23  contributions to the quality of education in our state and extend
   2-24  to him sincere best wishes for a happy and rewarding retirement;
   2-25  and, be it further
   2-26        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-27  prepared for Mr. Miller as an expression of high regard by the
    3-1  Texas House of Representatives.
