H.R. No. 740 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The many friends and family members of Jim Taylor 1-2 have suffered a great loss with the recent passing of this 1-3 distinguished gentleman at the age of 69; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Born in Kansas City, Missouri, on February 2, 1924, 1-5 Mr. Taylor attended college in Oklahoma and served his country as 1-6 an Air Corps gunnery instructor during World War II; he moved to 1-7 Fort Worth in 1956 to take a position as sales manager for Spencer 1-8 Chemical Company, which had recently acquired the Parker-Brown 1-9 plant; and 1-10 WHEREAS, He worked at this same location for the rest of his 1-11 career, although the plant went through a succession of owners over 1-12 the years; Mr. Taylor served as sales manager for Gulf Oil 1-13 Corporation, SEC, and AmeriGas before retiring from Dixie Petro 1-14 Chem; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Throughout his career, this respected individual 1-16 always found time to contribute to his community, and his 1-17 leadership and organizational skills were valued by many civic and 1-18 fraternal groups; a member of Overland Park, Kansas Masonic Lodge 1-19 436, Worth Commandry 19 Knights Templar, Fort Worth Scottish Rite 1-20 Bodies, Moslah Shrine, and Scottish Clans of North Texas, he served 1-21 as president of Fort Worth Rotary Club East, Longhorn Division of 1-22 Texas State Bottlers, Fort Worth Model A Ford Club, and Moslah 1-23 Shrine Model A Club; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Over the years he enjoyed a warm and loving 2-1 relationship with his wife, Margaret Roe Bartle Taylor, known 2-2 affectionately as "Jimmy"; their 45-year marriage was blessed with 2-3 three daughters, and their family grew in recent years to include 2-4 five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, all of whom brought 2-5 great pride and joy into Mr. Taylor's life; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Mr. Taylor was a devout Christian who served as 2-7 clerk of the session--ruling elder of Ridglea Presbyterian Church; 2-8 his abiding faith was an inspiration to all who knew him, and it 2-9 was this faith that supported him throughout many trying times; and 2-10 WHEREAS, In his later years, Mr. Taylor became known 2-11 throughout Texas for his noble efforts to educate people about 2-12 AIDS; he contracted the human immunodeficiency virus that causes 2-13 AIDS during a blood transfusion in 1987, and he devoted the 2-14 remainder of his life to raising public awareness about HIV and 2-15 AIDS; and 2-16 WHEREAS, Although he was physically weakened by his illness, 2-17 Mr. Taylor's indomitable spirit continued to touch the lives of all 2-18 around him, and this caring and compassionate gentleman will long 2-19 be remembered for the grace and strength he displayed in the face 2-20 of adversity; the illness that claimed his life could not destroy 2-21 his spirit, and his courage will live on in the hearts of the many 2-22 people who knew and loved him; and 2-23 WHEREAS, Through his active participation in community 2-24 service organizations and his valiant endeavors to educate Texans 2-25 about AIDS, Jim Taylor had a profound effect on the world around 2-26 him; his selfless efforts in reaching out to others in need will 2-27 surely inspire countless Texans to do the same, thus ensuring that 3-1 his legacy of good works will never be forgotten; now, therefore, 3-2 be it 3-3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 3-4 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Jim Taylor and extend 3-5 deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his beloved 3-6 wife, "Jimmy" Bartle Taylor; to his daughters, Pamela Yarbrough, 3-7 Sandy Taylor, and Lynnda Burroughs; to his five grandchildren, Lara 3-8 Yarbrough Wedel, Michael Roe Hostettler, Gregory James Yarbrough, 3-9 Timothy Jon Burroughs, and Clayton Taylor Burroughs; to his 3-10 great-granddaughter, Heather Nickole Wedel; to his sister, 3-11 Elizabeth Slade; to his nephew, Donald Slade; to his uncle, Tom 3-12 Taylor; and to all those who were privileged to know this fine 3-13 gentleman; and, be it further 3-14 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-15 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 3-16 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 3-17 Jim Taylor. 3-18 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 3-19 Jim Taylor. 3-20 Willis 3-21 H.R.
