                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The annual Spring Creek Festival was organized by
    1-2  the city of Garland in 1992 as a means of presenting the best of
    1-3  regional performing and visual arts, in combination with national
    1-4  and international artists, to the widest possible and most diverse
    1-5  metropolitan audience; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, This year's festival, orchestrated by the city of
    1-7  Garland in association with the city of Richardson, will feature a
    1-8  host of national and international performers who will showcase
    1-9  their exceptional talents over the course of eight nights from June
   1-10  11 through July 4, 1993, amid the natural beauty of the Winters
   1-11  Park outdoor amphitheater; each evening's festivities will begin
   1-12  with a balloon launch and conclude with a spectacular fireworks
   1-13  display; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Representing a wide variety of artistic styles, the
   1-15  festival's talented entertainers include such well-known performers
   1-16  as internationally acclaimed pianist Van Cliburn; the National
   1-17  Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Mstislav Rostropovich;
   1-18  award-winning vocalists Crystal Gayle, B. J. Thomas, Dionne
   1-19  Warwick, Willie Nelson, Steven Curtis Chapman, and Paul Overstreet;
   1-20  and such diverse offerings as the Dixie Chicks, Dash Riprock and
   1-21  the Dragons, the Fort Worth Ballet, and the Richardson Symphony
   1-22  Orchestra, conducted by Anshel Brusilow; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, The cities of Garland and Richardson have worked
   1-24  diligently to ensure the success of this popular annual event,
    2-1  investing in park improvements and the acquisition of professional
    2-2  theatrical stage, sound, and lighting equipment crucial to the
    2-3  support of these high-caliber performances; with the backing of
    2-4  neighboring cities, local corporations and individuals, as well as
    2-5  the vital support provided by regional news media, the Spring Creek
    2-6  Festival has met with great success and is rapidly developing into
    2-7  an event of statewide significance; now, therefore, be it
    2-8        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
    2-9  Legislature hereby commend the organizers of the Spring Creek
   2-10  Festival for the outstanding contributions they have made to the
   2-11  citizens of this great state through their exceptional efforts to
   2-12  foster increased cultural and artistic appreciation in Texas; and,
   2-13  be it further
   2-14        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-15  prepared for the cities of Garland and Richardson as an expression
   2-16  of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
