R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, George William Mitchell, an outstanding member of
1-2 the Bellmead community and a dedicated law enforcement officer,
1-3 died on November 21, 1992, at the age of 61, and though his passing
1-4 was a sorrowful occasion, his memory lives on in the hearts of
1-5 family and friends, comforting them as they fondly recall his life;
1-6 and
1-7 WHEREAS, Born on December 6, 1930, in Bruceville-Eddy,
1-8 Mr. Mitchell enjoyed a productive and rewarding life, distinguished
1-9 by his career of 27 years with General Tire and Rubber Company; and
1-10 WHEREAS, He will also be remembered for his dedication to his
1-11 country, reflected by his 35 years of loyal and patriotic service
1-12 as a member of the United States Army National Guard; and
1-13 WHEREAS, In later life, Mr. Mitchell devoted himself to the
1-14 field of local law enforcement and after three years of commendable
1-15 reserve duty joined the Bellmead Police Department in 1986, ably
1-16 serving the community as a full-time police officer until his
1-17 passing; and
1-18 WHEREAS, The qualities that made Officer Mitchell such a
1-19 special person emanated from his deep and abiding faith, which he
1-20 expressed as a devout member of Northside Church of Christ; and
1-21 WHEREAS, Mr. Mitchell lived his life motivated by a sense of
1-22 responsibility toward his community and nation and in doing so
1-23 deeply touched the lives of those around him; indeed, by his
1-24 example, he made a positive difference in the lives of many; now,
2-1 therefore, be it
2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
2-3 Legislature hereby honor the memory of Officer George William
2-4 Mitchell and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:
2-5 to his loving wife, Claudia Mitchell; to his three daughters, Susan
2-6 Powell, Carol Schaffer, and Janet Ayers; to his son, Bill Mitchell;
2-7 to his mother, Ada L. Mitchell; to his sister, Lillian Bancale; and
2-8 to his many other family members and friends; and, be it further
2-9 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
2-10 for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of
2-11 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Officer
2-12 George William Mitchell.
