H.R. No. 748
                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Shane Dronett, whose exceptional football career
    1-2  began at Bridge City High School, will have his high school
    1-3  football jersey number "7" retired as a fitting tribute to his
    1-4  legendary career at that fine institution; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, During his high school career this outstanding
    1-6  athlete exhibited tremendous talent as both an offensive and
    1-7  defensive player, earning All-District honors as a tight end and
    1-8  linebacker, and All-State status as a tight end; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, A defensive standout in college, he continued his
   1-10  gridiron exploits at The University of Texas at Austin, and while
   1-11  wearing the burnt orange and white dominated opposing linemen from
   1-12  his defensive end position, leading the Longhorns in quarterback
   1-13  sacks in both his sophomore and junior seasons; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Among the many well-deserved honors earned by Shane
   1-15  Dronett were three selections to the All-Southwest Conference team,
   1-16  two on the first team, and a coveted position on numerous
   1-17  All-American squads, including the Walter Camp, Associated Press,
   1-18  and Playboy All-American teams; his consistently superb
   1-19  performances on the field were rewarded with candidacy for two of
   1-20  football's most prestigious awards, the Lombardi Trophy and the
   1-21  Outland Trophy; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, A second round draft pick of the Denver Broncos, he
   1-23  continues to demonstrate the amazing talent and tireless work ethic
   1-24  that brought about his stardom at the high school and major college
    2-1  levels, and that undoubtedly will ensure his continued success in
    2-2  the National Football League; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, Shane Dronett exemplifies those qualities that have
    2-4  made Texas football a hotbed for the finest gridiron talent in the
    2-5  nation, and his outstanding accomplishments in that regard have
    2-6  truly earned him special legislative recognition; now, therefore,
    2-7  be it
    2-8        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
    2-9  Legislature hereby honor Shane Dronett on the momentous occasion of
   2-10  the retirement of his jersey number at Bridge City High School and
   2-11  extend to him best wishes for continued success in the future; and,
   2-12  be it further
   2-13        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-14  prepared for Shane Dronett as an expression of high regard by the
   2-15  Texas House of Representatives.
