                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, With two teams advancing to the state finals, Garden
    1-2  City High School achieved an exceptional level of success in the
    1-3  1993 Texas Small Schools Academic Competition, providing
    1-4  outstanding representation for the Glasscock County Independent
    1-5  School District by taking first and third place team honors in that
    1-6  competition; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Texas Association of Community
    1-8  Schools for high schools with a University Interscholastic League
    1-9  classification of 3A and below, this prestigious annual event is
   1-10  limited to 35 three-member teams from across the state who already
   1-11  have withstood the rigors of regional competition to achieve
   1-12  finalist status, and it is a tribute to the high academic standards
   1-13  at Garden City High School that two teams from the school qualified
   1-14  for the finals; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Performing at the highest level in academic
   1-16  competition requires not only keen intellect but also countless
   1-17  hours of study and preparation, and these dedicated students
   1-18  exemplify the pursuit of academic excellence; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Members of the Garden City High School team that
   1-20  attained the pinnacle of success by earning first place distinction
   1-21  are Jennifer Jones, Chris Schraeder, and Charles Blalock; their
   1-22  outstanding efforts were complemented by those of Jenny Phillips,
   1-23  David Blalock, and Marty Pearce, who took third place team honors;
   1-24  and
    2-1        WHEREAS, Coach Linda Jones labored tirelessly to prepare her
    2-2  charges for this difficult and demanding event, encouraging team
    2-3  members in their studies and helping to fire their competitive
    2-4  spirit, and she played a vital role in ensuring the two teams'
    2-5  success; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, The superlative achievements of those students
    2-7  representing Garden City High School in the 1993 Texas State Small
    2-8  Schools Academic Competition are a credit to that fine institution,
    2-9  and it is indeed appropriate that they be given special legislative
   2-10  recognition; now, therefore, be it
   2-11        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-12  Legislature hereby congratulate the Garden City High School teams
   2-13  for their exceptional accomplishments in placing first and third in
   2-14  the 1993 Texas State Small Schools Academic Competition and extend
   2-15  to them best wishes for continued success in the future; and, be it
   2-16  further
   2-17        RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
   2-18  for these exemplary Garden City High School scholars as an
   2-19  expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
