H.R. No. 754 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 Lee Townsend on the occasion of his retirement after an exemplary 1-3 36-year career with Texaco and Star Enterprise; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Highly regarded by all who have had the pleasure of 1-5 working with him, this outstanding individual has achieved a great 1-6 deal of success in his field, setting high standards of excellence 1-7 for those following in his footsteps; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Mr. Townsend began his career in 1957 as an 1-9 assistant mechanical engineer at Texaco's Port Arthur plant; his 1-10 skill and outstanding managerial abilities soon led him to 1-11 employment opportunities in many areas of the United States over 1-12 the course of the next two decades, including Louisiana, 1-13 California, and Illinois, where he was appointed Lawrenceville 1-14 plant manager in 1977; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Named assistant general manager of manufacturing for 1-16 Texaco U.S.A. in 1982, he was selected to serve as area manager for 1-17 the Port Arthur plant in 1984, and in December of 1992 accepted a 1-18 position as acting general manager of Star Enterprise's supply and 1-19 distribution department; and 1-20 WHEREAS, While serving as area manager for refining 1-21 operations in Jefferson County, this remarkable gentleman has taken 1-22 an active role in improving labor-management relations, worker 1-23 safety, environmental stewardship, and local economic and tax 1-24 policies; and 2-1 WHEREAS, A dedicated civic leader as well, he has garnered a 2-2 number of distinctive awards and honors, having been named the 2-3 recipient of the 1982 Lawrenceville County Citizen of the Year 2-4 Award and the 1991 Port Arthur Roy Hayes Excellence Award for 2-5 Outstanding Contributions to the Community; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Strongly committed to the area he has called home 2-7 for so many years, this benevolent gentleman has contributed his 2-8 time and talents to the benefit of a host of worthwhile 2-9 organizations in the community, including the 100 Club, the 2-10 Southeast Texas Blood Bank, the American Red Cross, the Southeast 2-11 Texas Inc. Economic Development Corporation, United Community 2-12 Services, and the board of directors of the Greater Port Arthur 2-13 Chamber of Commerce; and 2-14 WHEREAS, With loving support of his wife, Gene Elizabeth, and 2-15 his three children, Mr. Townsend has enjoyed a rewarding and 2-16 exciting tenure within his profession that has spanned more than 2-17 three decades; and 2-18 WHEREAS, In all aspects of his life, this distinguished 2-19 individual has exemplified the highest standards of leadership, 2-20 commitment, and dedication to his coworkers and fellow citizens, 2-21 and he is indeed deserving of special legislative recognition on 2-22 the occasion of his retirement; now, therefore, be it 2-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-24 Legislature hereby honor Lee Townsend for his many years of loyal 2-25 service and extend warmest best wishes to him for a happy and 2-26 rewarding retirement; and, be it further 2-27 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-1 prepared for Mr. Townsend as an expression of high regard by the 3-2 Texas House of Representatives. 3-3 Texas House of Representatives. 3-4 Stiles 3-5 H.R.
