R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Workman Publishing Company, the creation of highly
1-2 respected entrepreneur Peter I. Workman, is celebrating its 25th
1-3 anniversary in 1993; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Mr. Workman was born on October 19, 1938, in New
1-5 York City and attended Yale University; his love of the written
1-6 word led him to seek employment with the New York Daily News where
1-7 he began as a copy boy; and
1-8 WHEREAS, Undeterred by the precarious nature of the
1-9 publishing industry, he established Workman Publishing Company in
1-10 1968, with the Yoga 28-Day Exercise Plan being the initial project
1-11 to appear under that now renowned imprint; and
1-12 WHEREAS, Among the Workman Publishing Company books that have
1-13 achieved bestseller status by selling more than a million copies
1-14 are The Preppy Handbook, Kliban's Cat, The Silver Palate Cookbook,
1-15 The Silver Palate Good Times Cookbook, What to Expect When You're
1-16 Expecting, and What to Expect the First Year; and
1-17 WHEREAS, Other Workman bestsellers include Book of Questions,
1-18 Bones Book and Skeleton, Brain Quest, Bug Book & Bottle, New Basics
1-19 Cookbook, All I need To Know I Learned From My Cat, and The Texas
1-20 Handbook, and the company also originated the innovative and
1-21 immensely popular Page-A-Day Calendars; and
1-22 WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father, he has been supported
1-23 in all his many endeavors by his wife, Carolan, and their two
1-24 daughters, Katie and Elizabeth; and
2-1 WHEREAS, Workman Publishing Company consistently has striven
2-2 to provide the reading public with publications that inform and
2-3 entertain, and the many unique contributions of this exceptional
2-4 company in the field of publishing have indeed earned the company
2-5 and its founder special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be
2-6 it
2-7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
2-8 Legislature hereby congratulate Peter I. Workman on the momentous
2-9 occasion of Workman Publishing Company's 25th anniversary and
2-10 acknowledge that enterprise's exceptional contributions to the
2-11 publishing field with best wishes for continued success in the
2-12 future; and, be it further
2-13 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-14 prepared for Peter I. Workman as an expression of high regard by
2-15 the Texas House of Representatives.
