                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
    1-2  an outstanding jurist, Judge David Briones, on his recent
    1-3  nomination by United States Senator Bob Krueger for a new El Paso
    1-4  federal judgeship in the Western District of Texas; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Judge  Briones embarked on his accomplished career
    1-6  nearly 30 years ago as an aide to State Representative Paul Moreno
    1-7  and became his legislative assistant after Representative Moreno
    1-8  was first elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1966;
    1-9  and
   1-10        WHEREAS, In the fast-paced environment of the state
   1-11  legislature, this talented and hardworking graduate of The
   1-12  University of Texas at El Paso developed a keen interest in the law
   1-13  and, realizing he had discovered his lifetime career, went on to
   1-14  graduate from The University of Texas School of Law; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, The former law partner of Representative Moreno,
   1-16  Judge Briones gained considerable legal acumen and practical skill
   1-17  during his tenure in the firm that have contributed vastly to his
   1-18  marked success as a judge; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, This remarkable gentleman is currently the judge of
   1-20  El Paso County Court-at-Law No. 1, in which capacity he has served
   1-21  with great skill and earned a reputation as a wise and impartial
   1-22  decision maker since assuming his duties in 1991; if confirmed by
   1-23  the United States Senate for the federal judgeship, Judge Briones
   1-24  will become the first El Paso native, and the first Hispanic
    2-1  citizen of this historic city, to take a place on the federal
    2-2  bench; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, In private life, he is a devoted family man who has
    2-4  received the loving support of his wife, Delia, throughout his
    2-5  rewarding career; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, Described as patient and compassionate by his
    2-7  colleagues in the legal profession, Judge Briones has adhered to
    2-8  the highest principles of personal and professional integrity over
    2-9  the course of his tenure on the bench and has won the respect and
   2-10  admiration of his many colleagues and friends in the El Paso
   2-11  community; a man of rare vision and dedication, he is indeed
   2-12  deserving of special legislative recognition on the occasion of his
   2-13  latest accomplishment; now, therefore, be it
   2-14        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-15  Legislature hereby congratulate Judge David Briones on his
   2-16  nomination to a federal judgeship; and, be it further
   2-17        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-18  prepared for Judge Briones as an expression of high regard by the
   2-19  Texas House of Representatives.
