No. 784 73R11706 SAJ-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Laurel Mountain Elementary School of the Round Rock 1-2 Independent School District recently received well-deserved 1-3 recognition when it was selected to the Elementary Blue Ribbon 1-4 Schools Recognition Program for 1991-1992 by the United States 1-5 Department of Education; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Now in its 11th year, the Blue Ribbon program 1-7 recognizes schools that have made significant progress toward 1-8 national education goals by preparing students for responsible 1-9 citizenship, productive employment, and a lifetime of learning; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Laurel Mountain Elementary was one of 20 elementary 1-11 schools in Texas to receive this prestigious award and, along with 1-12 185 public schools representing 46 states, the District of 1-13 Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and Holland, was 1-14 recognized as a "National School of Excellence" at the program's 1-15 White House ceremonies; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Competing schools were evaluated by a panel of 1-17 principals and teachers who then made recommendations to the United 1-18 States secretary of education; the panel was joined by 1-19 representatives of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics 1-20 and the National Council for History Education, who assisted the 1-21 selection panel in identifying schools with exceptional programs in 1-22 those areas; and 1-23 WHEREAS, The dedication and commitment of principal Eleece 1-24 Moffatt and the school's many superb educators and administrators 2-1 have helped Laurel Mountain Elementary School to excel in its 2-2 mission to prepare young Texans to become productive, 2-3 forward-thinking members of our society, and it is indeed 2-4 appropriate that the tireless efforts of these dedicated 2-5 individuals be recognized on the occasion of this noteworthy 2-6 accomplishment; now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-8 Legislature hereby honor Laurel Mountain Elementary School on the 2-9 occasion of its recognition by the United States Department of 2-10 Education as an Elementary Blue Ribbon School and commend the many 2-11 dedicated and caring individuals who have made the school an 2-12 outstanding academic institution; and, be it further 2-13 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-14 prepared for prominent display at Laurel Mountain Elementary School 2-15 as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of 2-16 Representatives.
