                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Recognizing the unique ability of a young heart to
    1-2  overlook stereotypes, disregard false notions, and ignore
    1-3  longstanding international differences, Heart To Heart Global Youth
    1-4  Coalition strives to facilitate the cooperation and exchange of
    1-5  ideas between the former Soviet Union and the United States by
    1-6  sponsoring various youth exchange programs; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, At the Moscow Summit II in 1990 this notable
    1-8  organization used correspondence and artwork as media to open
    1-9  channels of communication between thousands of American and Soviet
   1-10  youth; building on this successful overture, Heart To Heart soon
   1-11  began launching a host of quality programs designed to provide
   1-12  opportunities for young people to be informed, to take action, and
   1-13  to resolve personal, community, national, and global issues in fun
   1-14  and exciting environments; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Since its beginnings, Heart To Heart has
   1-16  successfully overseen a variety of unique programs; in June 1990,
   1-17  14 Russian teenagers from Kalliningrad's space mission control
   1-18  center traveled to Dripping Springs where they stayed with
   1-19  families, visited local schools, and toured Austin, San Antonio,
   1-20  Johnson City, and Houston; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, The following year, a group of 20 from the Tyumen
   1-22  region of Siberia enjoyed interacting with Texas youth as the
   1-23  honored guests of five Hill Country summer camps; finally, in 1992,
   1-24  16 members of a Russian musical ensemble from Vorkuta and Ukhta
    2-1  performed traditional Russian songs and dances before audiences in
    2-2  Dallas, Austin, and Houston and reaped the benefits of various
    2-3  social and educational activities; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, Through the generous efforts of workers like Peter
    2-5  Gonzales and Barbara Allen, who have labored tirelessly to meet the
    2-6  needs of participants in the activities of this fine organization,
    2-7  Heart To Heart effectively has provided financial assistance,
    2-8  arranged touring schedules, obtained sponsors, and granted general
    2-9  support services on behalf of these visiting youth groups; in
   2-10  addition, the organization has worked with the United Nations to
   2-11  sponsor attendance at the United Nation's Global Youth Forum; and
   2-12        WHEREAS, Reaching across political boundaries, Heart To Heart
   2-13  has achieved a high degree of success in emphasizing cultural
   2-14  similarities and encouraging friendships between youth from the
   2-15  United States and the former Soviet Union; through this outstanding
   2-16  program, generations of future leaders have been exposed to the
   2-17  notion of cooperation while learning, as global neighbors, to look
   2-18  past cultural differences and work together in a spirit of
   2-19  understanding and friendship toward common goals; now, therefore,
   2-20  be it
   2-21        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-22  Legislature hereby commend Heart To Heart Global Youth Coalition
   2-23  for its many worthwhile contributions and positive accomplishments
   2-24  in the promotion of quality international relations; and, be it
   2-25  further
   2-26        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-27  prepared for Heart To Heart as an expression of high esteem by the
    3-1  Texas House of Representatives.
