By: Cuellar, H. H.R. No. 816 73R11799 BNL-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Honorable Jose R. Perez, Jr., has served with 1-2 distinction and honor as a member of the Laredo City Council for 1-3 three years, and the public works projects that he has promoted and 1-4 that have been completed during this time have elevated the 1-5 standard of living for many residents of this fine city; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Mr. Perez has initiated projects totalling several 1-7 million dollars to improve the city's infrastructure, with many of 1-8 these projects targeting such vital services as water distribution, 1-9 street and bridge repairs, and low-cost housing; he has helped to 1-10 revitalize South Laredo and was instrumental in the establishment 1-11 of the South Laredo Library Branch and the acquisition of an 1-12 emergency medical services unit for the South Laredo fire station; 1-13 and 1-14 WHEREAS, A longtime proponent of improved child care and 1-15 health services, this esteemed civic leader also has devoted much 1-16 of his time to broadening recreational opportunities in his 1-17 district; three new parks have already been proposed in the area, 1-18 and a National Guard Armory has been purchased by the city for 1-19 conversion into a community center that will benefit the entire 1-20 city; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Before his election to the city council in 1990, 1-22 Mr. Perez had amassed impressive educational credentials and had 1-23 earned endorsements to teach both bilingual students and students 1-24 with language learning disabilities; a graduate of United High 2-1 School and Laredo Junior College, he received his bachelor of 2-2 science degree from Texas A&I University and his master of science 2-3 degree from Laredo State University; and 2-4 WHEREAS, This outstanding educator taught for 12 years at 2-5 Daiches Elementary School and served as assistant principal of Ryan 2-6 Elementary School before being promoted to the position of 2-7 administrative officer for the Laredo Independent School District 2-8 division of operations; he is a valued member of several 2-9 professional organizations, including the Texas State Teachers 2-10 Association, the National Education Association, and the Laredo 2-11 Administrators and Supervisors Organization; and 2-12 WHEREAS, Throughout his career, he has enjoyed a warm and 2-13 loving relationship with his wife Idalia; their marriage has been 2-14 blessed with four children, Joe, Monica, Rebecca, and Agapito, all 2-15 of whom have brought great pride and joy to their father; and 2-16 WHEREAS, Both as an educator and as a city council member, 2-17 Mr. Perez has selflessly dedicated himself to serving the people of 2-18 Laredo, and his valiant efforts have improved the quality of life 2-19 for numerous citizens; he has distinguished himself as an 2-20 outstanding public servant and a tireless advocate for his 2-21 constituents, and he is truly deserving of highest praise and 2-22 recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-24 Legislature hereby commend the Honorable Jose R. Perez, Jr., for 2-25 his numerous contributions to the people of Laredo and extend to 2-26 him warmest best wishes for many more years of continued success; 2-27 and, be it further 3-1 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-2 prepared for Mr. Perez as an expression of high regard by the Texas 3-3 House of Representatives.
