                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The recent passing of Randall T. Hodde on May 10,
    1-2  1993, at the age of 42, has brought great sadness to the many
    1-3  friends and family members of this esteemed health care
    1-4  professional and longtime civic leader of Houston; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, This remarkable gentleman was born on April 19,
    1-6  1951, and was a graduate of the University of Houston, where he
    1-7  earned a bachelor of science degree in hotel and restaurant
    1-8  management and a master of business administration degree in
    1-9  marketing; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Mr. Hodde was the executive director of the Houston
   1-11  Area Health Care Coalition, in which capacity he provided
   1-12  outstanding leadership and dedication to the organization's efforts
   1-13  to improve the quality and accessibility of health care for all
   1-14  citizens; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, In addition, he was a founding board member of the
   1-16  Bering Community Service Foundation and, as the group's first
   1-17  executive director, helped the foundation to fulfill its mission of
   1-18  providing much-needed patient services to individuals with acquired
   1-19  immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS); and
   1-20        WHEREAS, A deeply compassionate and civic-minded individual,
   1-21  Mr. Hodde was widely recognized in the community for his extensive
   1-22  record of volunteer work, most recently by the Bering Foundation at
   1-23  a special award presentation, and also was the deserving recipient
   1-24  of the prestigious Community Service Award from The Diana
    2-1  Foundation of Houston; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Mr. Hodde served with distinction as the president
    2-3  of the Houston Foundation's Board of Public Trust, to which he
    2-4  contributed wise and effective supervision of the disbursement of
    2-5  funds to numerous civic and charitable organizations; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, He was a valued member of a host of professional and
    2-7  community organizations as well, including the National Society of
    2-8  Fundraising Executives, The Greater Houston Partnership, The
    2-9  Downtown Houston Association, and the American Marketing
   2-10  Association, and, as an active supporter of the political process,
   2-11  gave generously of his resources to candidates and causes he
   2-12  believed in; and
   2-13        WHEREAS, In addition, Mr. Hodde was a longtime and cherished
   2-14  member of the Bering Memorial United Methodist Church; and
   2-15        WHEREAS, During his lifetime, this accomplished and caring
   2-16  individual made numerous lasting contributions to his community
   2-17  through his professional and civic endeavors, and he will be sorely
   2-18  missed by the many people whose lives he touched; though he is gone
   2-19  from us now, the memory of Mr. Hodde's generosity and goodwill will
   2-20  long endure as an inspiration to all those who were privileged to
   2-21  know him; now, therefore, be it
   2-22        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-23  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Randall T. Hodde and
   2-24  extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:  to his
   2-25  parents, Joe T. and Irene Hodde; to his brother, Ken Hodde; to his
   2-26  aunt and uncle, Betty and Al Beyer; to his cousins; to his beloved
   2-27  friend of 16 years, Jim Walker; and to the other members of his
    3-1  family; and, be it further
    3-2        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    3-3  prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
    3-4  House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
    3-5  Randall T. Hodde.
