                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Greater Houston Area Council on Physical Fitness
    1-2  and Sports provides a vital service to the Houston community by
    1-3  promoting programs that enrich the health and well-being of its
    1-4  citizenry; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, This notable organization has continued and expanded
    1-6  efforts that began 35 years ago when Dwight Eisenhower established
    1-7  the President's Council on Physical Fitness with the worthy goal of
    1-8  encouraging the country's youth in the pursuit of health; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Chartered by Harris County Judge Jon Lindsay and the
   1-10  Harris County commissioners, the Houston chapter of the council on
   1-11  physical fitness has greatly expanded the program's original
   1-12  horizons by fostering a broad agenda of programs to educate and
   1-13  encourage fitness, wellness, and safety throughout the community;
   1-14  and
   1-15        WHEREAS, In the vanguard of a concerted effort to establish a
   1-16  broader network of statewide fitness programs, the Houston chapter
   1-17  also has directed its considerable energies toward tailoring
   1-18  specific fitness challenges for people in a wide variety of
   1-19  occupations and situations, including National Aeronautics and
   1-20  Space Administration personnel, members of the military, employees
   1-21  in corporate environments, senior citizens, and the families of the
   1-22  1990s; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, The Greater Houston Area Council on Physical Fitness
   1-24  and Sports has provided much-needed organization and motivation to
    2-1  those who pursue the worthy goal of physical fitness, and its
    2-2  extraordinary contributions in this regard have indeed earned
    2-3  special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
    2-4        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
    2-5  Legislature hereby commend the Greater Houston Area Council on
    2-6  Physical Fitness and Sports for its exemplary efforts in assisting
    2-7  the members of the community in the attainment of a healthier
    2-8  lifestyle; and, be it further
    2-9        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-10  prepared for the Greater Houston Area Council on Physical Fitness
   2-11  and Sports as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
   2-12  Representatives.
