                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Gussie Harold Evans, longtime journal clerk and one
    1-2  of the most respected individuals ever to have served the Texas
    1-3  House of Representatives, died on April 26, 1993, and her passing
    1-4  has brought a great loss to all who were privileged to know her;
    1-5  and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Affectionately known as "Miss Gussie," she began her
    1-7  distinguished career as an educator in the public schools of East
    1-8  Texas, before she was persuaded by her uncle, Jim Robinson, who had
    1-9  served as the house journal clerk for many years, to come to Austin
   1-10  to assist him with his duties; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Elected by a unanimous vote of the Texas House of
   1-12  Representatives of the 44th Legislature to succeed him in his post,
   1-13  she served with the utmost distinction in this capacity until her
   1-14  retirement; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Throughout her remarkable tenure, Ms. Evans was
   1-16  highly regarded by the members of this chamber as one who was able
   1-17  to produce a journal of consistent accuracy and as a knowledgeable
   1-18  official on whom speakers relied for procedural assistance; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Always gracious and considerate in dealing with
   1-20  those around her, Gussie Harold Evans contributed immeasureably to
   1-21  the legislative process as the house journal clerk and served the
   1-22  citizens of this state with outstanding diligence and integrity for
   1-23  many years; and
   1-24        WHEREAS, During her lifetime, Ms. Evans exemplified the
    2-1  highest standards of excellence, dedication, and leadership; though
    2-2  her presence is gone from us now, her spirit will remain in the
    2-3  hearts of those whose lives she touched during her years on this
    2-4  earth; now, therefore, be it
    2-5        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
    2-6  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Gussie Harold Evans
    2-7  and extend sincere sympathy to the J. Monty Walton family and to
    2-8  the many other friends and relatives of this fine woman; and, be it
    2-9  further
   2-10        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-11  prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas
   2-12  House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
   2-13  Gussie Harold Evans.
