No. 855 73R11904 WMS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Abilene Christian University men's golf team has 1-2 attained the pinnacle of success, winning the 1993 National 1-3 Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Division II championship in 1-4 golf; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Tied with host school California State College, 1-6 Stanislaus, at the outset of the final round, the exceptional group 1-7 of young golfers refused to be denied, holding off strong 1-8 challenges from Florida Southern College and defending national 1-9 champion Columbus College to take the title by five strokes; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The season's outstanding accomplishments were the 1-11 result of a total team effort from members Matt Welch, Brad 1-12 Stewart, Tony Lara, Marcus Cain, and Jeev Milkha Singh, who won a 1-13 dramatic playoff to claim the tournament's individual title; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Founded by golfing legend Byron Nelson, the Abilene 1-15 Christian University golf team has risen to national prominence 1-16 under the expert direction of coach Vince Jarrett, and the program 1-17 has also benefited from the consistent support of the school's 1-18 president, Dr. Royce Money; and 1-19 WHEREAS, The men's golf team has been a tremendous source of 1-20 pride for the students and faculty of Abilene Christian University 1-21 and their many supporters in the community, and their phenomenal 1-22 achievements have rightfully earned them special legislative 1-23 recognition; now, therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-1 Legislature hereby congratulate coach Vince Jarrett and the Abilene 2-2 Christian University men's golf team on winning the 1993 NCAA 2-3 Division II men's national golf championship and extend to them 2-4 sincere best wishes for continued success in the future; and, be it 2-5 further 2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-7 prepared for the members of the team and its coaching staff as an 2-8 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
