                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas High School Rodeo Association will hold
    1-2  its state championship rodeo finals in Abilene during the week of
    1-3  June 7-12, 1993; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Almost half of the association's more than 1,000
    1-5  members will compete in the state rodeo finals in such demanding
    1-6  events as bareback and saddle bronc riding, bull riding, calf
    1-7  roping, team roping, goat tying, pole bending, and cattle cutting,
    1-8  and state champions will go on to participate in the National High
    1-9  School Finals Rodeo that will be held in late July; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Texas has been declared the National Team Champion
   1-11  in eight of the past 11 years; at the 1992 National High School
   1-12  Finals Rodeo, a strong team of cowboys and cowgirls from the Lone
   1-13  Star State accumulated 7,595 points, placing themselves more than
   1-14  3,500 points ahead of the second-place team to claim the national
   1-15  title for the second year in a row; a third consecutive victory in
   1-16  1993 will allow Texas to retire the trophy; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, In addition to encouraging young Texans to excel at
   1-18  traditional rodeo sports, the Texas High School Rodeo Association
   1-19  instills leadership and responsibility in its members, requiring
   1-20  that they conduct themselves in an exemplary manner, that students
   1-21  abide by a strict dress code when competing, and that contestants
   1-22  uphold the highest ideals of sportsmanship; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Vitally committed to education, the association
   1-24  emphasizes its superior dedication to academic achievement through
    2-1  the provision of more than $30,000 in scholarships each year; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Since its founding, the Texas High School Rodeo
    2-3  Association has contributed significantly to the enrichment of the
    2-4  lives of many young Texans, and its record of distinguished
    2-5  achievement is indeed deserving of special recognition and praise;
    2-6  now, therefore, be it
    2-7        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
    2-8  Legislature hereby commend the Texas High School Rodeo Association
    2-9  on its many outstanding accomplishments and extend to its members
   2-10  sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness in the
   2-11  future; and, be it further
   2-12        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-13  prepared for the Texas High School Rodeo Association as an
   2-14  expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
