H.R. No. 862 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The citizens of Laredo may take great pride in the 1-2 accomplishments of the many bright and motivated students of St. 1-3 Augustine High School, and the faculty and staff of this fine 1-4 school are deserving of special recognition for encouraging the 1-5 academic achievement of these talented young people; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Founded in 1927, St. Augustine High School boasts a 1-7 long and noble tradition of academic success; the school follows a 1-8 demanding college preparatory curriculum, but the low 1-9 student-to-teacher ratio of 17 students for each teacher enables 1-10 all students to receive the personal attention and instruction that 1-11 they need to succeed; and 1-12 WHEREAS, The school curriculum emphasizes traditional 1-13 academic classes such as English and math, but it also includes 1-14 required computer, art appreciation, and speech classes, thus 1-15 ensuring that students are proficient in a wide variety of skills 1-16 and subject areas; St. Augustine is the only Catholic high school 1-17 in the Laredo area, and as such the school places a strong emphasis 1-18 on its students' spiritual development as well as their 1-19 intellectual development; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Completion of this demanding curriculum thoroughly 1-21 prepares students for the rigors of higher education, and 100 1-22 percent of the school's graduates for the past six years have been 1-23 accepted to college; St. Augustine graduates are attending the most 1-24 prestigious institutions of higher learning across the nation, and 2-1 many of them have been the recipients of generous academic 2-2 scholarships; and 2-3 WHEREAS, The talent, hard work, and dedication demonstrated 2-4 by these students are indicative of the high standards that have 2-5 been set by their teachers and parents, and the students' academic 2-6 achievements here will undoubtedly prepare them for great success 2-7 in college and beyond; the remarkable spirit and ability that these 2-8 young people have displayed ensure that the future of Texas is 2-9 indeed in capable hands; now, therefore, be it 2-10 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-11 Legislature hereby recognize the achievements of the students, 2-12 faculty, and staff of St. Augustine High School and extend to them 2-13 warmest best wishes for many more years of continued success; and, 2-14 be it further 2-15 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-16 prepared for St. Augustine High School as an expression of high 2-17 regard by the Texas House of Representatives. 2-18 regard by the Texas House of Representatives. 2-19 Cuellar of Webb 2-20 H.R.
