H.R. No. 868 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that the Texas House of 1-2 Representatives commends the students, staff, and faculty of 1-3 Cigarroa High School for their outstanding achievements during the 1-4 1992-1993 school year; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The students of Cigarroa High School have compiled 1-6 an impressive record of academic, artistic, athletic, and 1-7 vocational achievement that serves as a testament to their talent, 1-8 hard work, self-discipline, and dedication to excellence; and 1-9 WHEREAS, More than 70 students in the 10th grade received 1-10 academic recognition for their mastery of all three sections on the 1-11 Texas Academic Achievement Skills test, and this year the school's 1-12 average TAAS scores were substantially raised; this fine high 1-13 school also produced 28 successful science fair projects and sent 1-14 students to the Corpus Christi Texas Aquarium Summer Program and 1-15 other educational events; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Music, drama, and dance students at Cigarroa High 1-17 School represented their school with pride and distinction at 1-18 competitions around the state; the school's young singers, 1-19 musicians, and thespians achieved high marks for their performances 1-20 at University Interscholastic League competitions, and the dancers 1-21 in the Ballet Folklorico troupe were named cochampions at the 1-22 Alethea Competition; and 1-23 WHEREAS, The girls' volleyball team also met with 1-24 considerable success this season, winning the district title for 2-1 the second year in a row and the girls' basketball team achieved a 2-2 second-place ranking in the district; other athletic 2-3 accomplishments of note were made by members of the girls' track 2-4 team and the boys' football team; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Cigarroa High School's vocational education programs 2-6 have been recognized throughout Texas and the United States for 2-7 their excellence, and students of the automotive technology program 2-8 proved especially successful this year, winning awards and 2-9 scholarships at the local, district, and state levels; also 2-10 receiving recognition were students in the business, metal trades, 2-11 cabinetmaking, food production, clothing apparel, agriculture 2-12 science, and Future Farmers of America programs; and 2-13 WHEREAS, Members of the Cigarroa High School faculty have 2-14 garnered numerous honors and fellowships for their outstanding 2-15 contributions to teaching in a wide array of disciplines; those who 2-16 have achieved notable recognition this year include school 2-17 principal Pedro Lara and teachers Martha Mancera, Esther Buckley, 2-18 Sylvia Barrera, Rosa Maria de Llano, Armando Flores, and Armando 2-19 Hinojosa; and 2-20 WHEREAS, All those at this fine Texas school are indeed 2-21 deserving of special legislative commendation for their exceptional 2-22 record of achievement; now, therefore, be it 2-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-24 Legislature hereby commend the students, staff, and faculty of 2-25 Cigarroa High School for their many academic, artistic, athletic, 2-26 and vocational accomplishments during the 1992-1993 school year; 2-27 and, be it further 3-1 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-2 prepared for the students, staff, and faculty of Cigarroa High 3-3 School as an expression of high esteem by the Texas House of 3-4 Representatives. 3-5 School as an expression of high esteem by the Texas House of 3-6 Representatives. 3-7 Cuellar of Webb 3-8 H.R.
