R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Jimmy Hauk has dedicated most of his life to serving
1-2 the people of Buckholts, and his selfless educational contributions
1-3 over the past 35 years have earned him the gratitude and
1-4 appreciation of teachers, students, and parents throughout the
1-5 community; and
1-6 WHEREAS, A native of Milam County, Mr. Hauk was born August
1-7 14, 1936, to John and Vera Garrett Hauk; he began his education in
1-8 a tiny, three-room country school in Clarkson before attending a
1-9 junior high school in Cameron, where he played left tackle on the
1-10 school's football team; and
1-11 WHEREAS, He continued to develop his athletic skills as a
1-12 student at C. H. Yoe High School, and upon his graduation in 1954,
1-13 he was awarded a football scholarship to Allen Military Academy in
1-14 Brazos County; and
1-15 WHEREAS, Mr. Hauk eventually transferred to Sam Houston State
1-16 University in Huntsville, where he earned a bachelor of business
1-17 administration degree; although he intended to pursue a business
1-18 career, he accepted a teaching position in Cleveland; and
1-19 WHEREAS, What started out as a temporary job became a
1-20 lifelong career; to the good fortune of the community, Mr. Hauk
1-21 soon returned to Milam County to take a position in the Buckholts
1-22 Independent School District, where he has served in numerous
1-23 capacities for more than three decades; in addition to teaching,
1-24 Mr. Hauk coached many of the district's athletic teams and led the
2-1 Buckholts Badgers football team to several regional championships;
2-2 and
2-3 WHEREAS, This highly respected educator earned a master's
2-4 degree and administrator's certification from Sam Houston State
2-5 University, and this advanced education eminently qualified him to
2-6 be superintendent of the Buckholts schools, a post which he
2-7 accepted in 1975; he planned to retire from this position in
2-8 February but was persuaded to return to the job on a part-time
2-9 basis; and
2-10 WHEREAS, Known throughout the community as a man of honor and
2-11 integrity, this distinguished educator won the respect and
2-12 admiration not only of his students but of his colleagues and
2-13 neighbors as well; he was invited by the senior class of Buckholts
2-14 High School to address their 1993 commencement ceremonies, and
2-15 community leaders will host a reception in his honor on June 27,
2-16 1993; and
2-17 WHEREAS, Jimmy Hauk has dedicated much of his life to the
2-18 education and enrichment of countless young Texans, and in his
2-19 efforts he has reached beyond the classroom environment and into
2-20 the community; through his actions, he has proven himself to be a
2-21 worthy role model for the young people whose lives he has shaped,
2-22 and he has exemplified the highest ideals of his profession; now,
2-23 therefore, be it
2-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
2-25 Legislature hereby commend Jimmy Hauk for his numerous
2-26 contributions in the field of education and extend to him warmest
2-27 best wishes for continued happiness and success; and, be it further
3-1 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3-2 prepared for Mr. Hauk as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3-3 House of Representatives.
