H.R. No. 891 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The many friends and family of Homer L. Simpson have 1-2 suffered a great loss with the passing of this distinguished 1-3 gentleman on April 22, 1993, at the age of 56; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A native of Beaumont, Mr. Simpson was born June 27, 1-5 1936, to Lester and Annie Bean Simpson; he was graduated from 1-6 Hebert High School in 1954 and then enrolled at Texas Southern 1-7 University, where he earned both a bachelor of science degree and a 1-8 master of education degree; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Using his education to reach out to the young people 1-10 of his community, Mr. Simpson became a highly regarded teacher at 1-11 Hebert High School, Forest Park High School, West Brook Senior High 1-12 School, South Park and Beaumont Independent School District 1-13 Distributive Education Units, and Fletcher Elementary School; he 1-14 further donated his time to the youth of Beaumont as a golf coach, 1-15 thus challenging his students athletically as well as 1-16 intellectually; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Mr. Simpson was an esteemed member of several 1-18 professional organizations, including the National Education 1-19 Association, the Beaumont and South Park Classroom Teacher 1-20 Associations, the Marketing and Distributive Education Association, 1-21 and the State Golf Association; he also was a life member of the 1-22 Texas State Teachers Association, and he had won the respect and 1-23 admiration of many of his colleagues in the field of education 1-24 before his retirement in 1992; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Religion played a very important role in 2-2 Mr. Simpson's life, and this devout gentleman was a longtime member 2-3 of the Greater Good Hope Baptist Church; he shared his talent with 2-4 the entire congregation as a member of the Male Chorus, and his 2-5 faith, generosity, and compassion were inspirational to all who 2-6 knew him; and 2-7 WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Mr. Simpson enjoyed the love 2-8 and companionship of his childhood sweetheart, Josephine Alfred 2-9 Simpson, with whom he attended school from the first grade through 2-10 college; they were married on August 17, 1963, and remained very 2-11 much devoted to each other throughout their 30-year union; and 2-12 WHEREAS, In serving his family, his church, and his 2-13 community, this extraordinary gentleman gave generously to those 2-14 around him and left them with a legacy of love and compassion by 2-15 which to remember him; Mr. Simpson truly exemplified the ideals of 2-16 Christian faith and charity, and his unique spirit will surely live 2-17 on in the hearts of the many people whose lives he touched; now, 2-18 therefore, be it 2-19 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-20 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Homer L. Simpson and 2-21 extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his 2-22 beloved wife, Josephine Alfred Simpson; to his mother, Mrs. Annie 2-23 B. Simpson; to his brothers, Moten, Albert, and Joseph Simpson; to 2-24 his aunts, Lee Etta Batiste, Edna Rhodes, Geneva Kenebrew, and 2-25 Estelle Rideaux; to his nieces and nephews; and to all the friends 2-26 and relatives of this fine man; and, be it further 2-27 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-1 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 3-2 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 3-3 Homer L.
