H.R. No. 897 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Journalists and the media make a great contribution 1-2 to the State of Texas and to the nation by keeping the general 1-3 public informed of the current happenings of the day and serve an 1-4 invaluable role as observers and reporters of the daily occurrences 1-5 that touch and affect the lives of all Texans; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The Dallas-Fort Worth Network of Hispanic 1-7 Communicators, which was founded in 1982 and is a chapter of the 1-8 National Association of Hispanic Journalists, is dedicated and 1-9 committed to ensuring the increased representation, appreciation, 1-10 and understanding of Hispanics in the media; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The Dallas-Fort Worth Network of Hispanic 1-12 Communicators is also strongly dedicated to recognizing and 1-13 encouraging the writing abilities of area high school students and 1-14 brings forth those talents in a competitive arena with its annual 1-15 writing contest for students in the Dallas-Fort Worth area; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Refugio Nathaniel Obregon of Sunset High School 1-17 participated and received third place honors in the category of 1-18 English language essay, grades 9 and 10, in the Dallas-Fort Worth 1-19 Network of Hispanic Communicators' 11th Annual High School Writing 1-20 Contest on May 22, 1993; now, therefore, be it 1-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 1-22 Legislature hereby commend Refugio Nathaniel Obregon and the 1-23 Dallas-Fort Worth Network of Hispanic Communicators for their 2-1 efforts and strong commitment to writing and journalism and for 2-2 being examples of the local talent that is found in the Hispanic 2-3 community of the Dallas-Fort Worth area; and, be it further 2-4 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-5 prepared as an expression of high esteem by the Texas House of 2-6 Representatives. 2-7 Representatives. 2-8 Alonzo 2-9 H.R.
