H.R. No. 904
                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Jose Angel Gutierrez was born in the historic city
    1-2  of Crystal City, the site of the birth of the Chicano movement,
    1-3  which changed the lives of Mexican Americans living in the State of
    1-4  Texas; and
    1-5        WHEREAS,  Mr. Gutierrez was one of the leaders of the Mexican
    1-6  American fight for equality in Texas and was cofounder of the
    1-7  Mexican American Youth Organization and La Raza Unida Party during
    1-8  the decade of the 1970s; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Mr. Gutierrez's political involvement is rooted in
   1-10  his hometown of Crystal City and throughout the State of Texas,
   1-11  where he was instrumental in shedding light on the inequalities
   1-12  found in the lives of Mexican Americans; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Mr. Gutierrez continues to be a spokesman for the
   1-14  needs of the Mexican American community and all Texans as
   1-15  demonstrated in his recent bid for the United States Senate; now,
   1-16  therefore, be it
   1-17        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd
   1-18  Legislature hereby commend Jose Angel Gutierrez for his outstanding
   1-19  service to the Mexican American community of the State of Texas;
   1-20  and, be it further
   1-21        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   1-22  prepared for Mr. Gutierrez as an  expression of high esteem by the
   1-23  Texas House of Representatives.
