H.R. No. 907 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 one of its most esteemed colleagues, the Honorable Bill Blackwood, 1-3 on the occasion of his 33rd wedding anniversary; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Representative Blackwood was first elected to the 1-5 Texas House of Representatives in 1985 serving the citizens of 1-6 Mesquite; and 1-7 WHEREAS, During his prestigious tenure in this house he has 1-8 held memberships on many committees with honor and distinction, 1-9 such as the Committee on Environmental Regulation, the Committee on 1-10 Labor and Employment Relations, the Committee on Criminal 1-11 Jurisprudence, the Committee on Higher Education, the Committee on 1-12 Appropriations, the Committee on Public Safety, and the Committee 1-13 on Science and Technology; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Serving as vice-chairman for the Committee on Public 1-15 Safety and the Committee on Science and Technology, his valor and 1-16 dedication ensured the passage of many useful and necessary pieces 1-17 of legislation, including his most prized peace officer benefits 1-18 bill and the establishment of the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement 1-19 Management Institute of Texas; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Representative Blackwood is blessed with a loving 1-21 wife, the former Miss Mary Evelyn Pendergrass, with whom he 1-22 celebrated his 33rd wedding anniversary on May 30, 1993; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Representative and Mrs. Blackwood enjoy the love of 2-1 two children, Scott Blackwood and Jennie Blackwood Turnell, and two 2-2 grandchildren, Matthew Turnell and Kirstyn Blackwood; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Because of his courageous fight and determination to 2-4 beat the cancer that has prevented him from being with us on this 2-5 day, Sine Die of the 73rd Texas Legislature; now therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the Texas House of Representatives bestow the 2-7 honor of legislative recognition on our colleague, the Honorable 2-8 Bill Blackwood, and support him in his battle against the illness 2-9 that has prevented his presence on this day; and, be it further 2-10 RESOLVED, That the Texas House of Representatives officially 2-11 dedicate the 73rd Legislative Session to Representative Bill 2-12 Blackwood of Mesquite and that this dedication serve in recognition 2-13 of his accomplishments, dedication to hard work, friendship, and 2-14 loyalty to the State of Texas; and, be it further 2-15 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-16 prepared for Representative Blackwood as an expression of high 2-17 regard and respect by his many friends in the Texas House of 2-18 Representatives and that when the Texas House of Representatives 2-19 adjourns this day, it do so in honor of Representative Bill 2-20 Blackwood. 2-21 Blackwood. 2-22 Oakley 2-23 H.R.
