1-19 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-20 AN ACT
1-21 relating to insurance premium discounts for vehicles with antitheft
1-22 devices.
1-23 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-24 SECTION 1. Section 2, Article 5.03-2, Insurance Code, is
1-25 amended to read as follows:
1-26 Sec. 2. DISCOUNT REQUIRED <PERMITTED>. (a) An insurer who
1-27 delivers or issues for delivery in this state comprehensive
1-28 insurance coverage on a motor vehicle shall <may> grant a discount
1-29 in the amount provided by Subsection (c) of this section in the
1-30 premiums charged for the comprehensive insurance for the motor
1-31 vehicle if the motor vehicle is equipped with an antitheft device
1-32 that qualifies under this article.
1-33 (b) An insurer shall <may> grant a discount in the premiums
1-34 charged for comprehensive insurance for a motorcycle or
1-35 motorbicycle in an amount greater than a Category I or Category II
1-36 discount if the State Board of Insurance, by rule, authorizes
1-37 additional discounts based on the installation of additional
1-38 antitheft devices that are designed for use on motorcycles or
1-39 motorbicycles.
1-40 (c) The discounts under this article shall be set by the
1-41 State Board of Insurance.
1-42 SECTION 2. Section 6A, Article 5.03-2, Insurance Code, is
1-43 amended to read as follows:
1-44 Sec. 6A. CATEGORY V DISCOUNT. A Category V discount shall
1-45 <may> be granted for a motor vehicle that qualifies under Category
1-46 IV and is equipped with a stolen vehicle recovery system.
1-47 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 1993.
1-48 SECTION 4. The importance of this legislation and the
1-49 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-50 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-51 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-52 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
