                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-1                                AN ACT
    1-2  relating to requiring certain information to be printed on a
    1-3  practitioner's prescription pad before the prescription may be
    1-4  dispensed.
    1-5        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-6        SECTION 1.  The Texas Pharmacy Act (Article 4542a-1, Vernon's
    1-7  Texas Civil Statutes) is amended by adding Section 42 to read as
    1-8  follows:
    1-9        Sec. 42.  INFORMATION REQUIRED ON WRITTEN PRESCRIPTION DRUG
   1-10  ORDERS.  (a)  A written prescription issued by a practitioner may
   1-11  not be dispensed unless it is ordered on a form that contains the
   1-12  name, business address, and business telephone number of the
   1-13  practitioner.
   1-14        (b)  The information required by Subsection (a) of this
   1-15  section must be clearly printed or typed on the form.
   1-16        SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1993.
   1-17        SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
   1-18  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
   1-19  emergency   and   an   imperative   public   necessity   that   the
   1-20  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
   1-21  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
