No. 258 73R2565 JRD-D A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-1 AN ACT 1-2 relating to requiring citizenship as a prerequisite to holding a 1-3 license from the Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards 1-4 and Education. 1-5 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-6 SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 415, Government Code, is 1-7 amended by adding Section 415.0591 to read as follows: 1-8 Sec. 415.0591. CITIZENSHIP REQUIREMENT. A person must be a 1-9 United States citizen to hold a license to be an officer, county 1-10 jailer, or public security officer. The commission shall establish 1-11 procedures for proving citizenship. 1-12 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1993. 1-13 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the 1-14 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-15 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-16 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-17 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
