                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-1                                AN ACT
    1-2  relating to the fees for services rendered by justices of the
    1-3  peace.
    1-4        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-5        SECTION 1.  Section 118.121, Local Government Code, is
    1-6  amended to read as follows:
    1-7        Sec. 118.121.  FEE SCHEDULE.  A justice of the peace shall
    1-8  collect the following fees for services rendered to any person:
    1-9              (1)  Services rendered before judgment (Sec. 118.122):
   1-10                    (A)  Justice court .............. $20.00 <$15.00>
   1-11                    (B)  Small claims court ......... $15.00 <$10.00>
   1-12              (2)  Services rendered after judgment (Sec. 118.123):
   1-13                    (A)  Transcript .......................... $10.00
   1-14                    (B)  Abstract of judgment ................. $5.00
   1-15                    (C)  Execution,   order   of   sale,   writ    of
   1-16                           restitution,   or    other     writ     or
   1-17                           process ................... $5.00 per page
   1-18                         Issuing   other    document   (no   return
   1-19                           required) .................... copy charge
   1-20        SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1993, and
   1-21  applies only to fees that become payable on or after that date.  A
   1-22  fee that became payable before the effective date of this Act is
   1-23  governed by the law in effect when the fee became payable, and that
   1-24  law is continued in effect for that purpose.
    2-1        SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
    2-2  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
    2-3  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
    2-4  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
    2-5  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
