                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-1                                AN ACT
    1-2  relating to permitting certain students who are graduates of the
    1-3  Reynaldo G.  Garza School of Law to take the examination for a
    1-4  license to practice law in this state.
    1-5        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-6        SECTION 1.  Sections 82.0241(a) and (c), Government Code, are
    1-7  amended to read as follows:
    1-8        (a)  A person who was enrolled at the Reynaldo G. Garza
    1-9  School of Law located in the City of Edinburg before June 1, 1989,
   1-10  and who satisfies the law study requirements for taking the
   1-11  examination for a license to practice law in this state before June
   1-12  1, 2003 <1993>, may not be denied licensing solely on the basis of
   1-13  having been graduated from that school.
   1-14        (c)  This section expires June 1, 2003 <1993>.
   1-15        SECTION 2.  The importance of this legislation and the
   1-16  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
   1-17  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
   1-18  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
   1-19  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
   1-20  and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
   1-21  passage, and it is so enacted.
