A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
1-1 relating to the designation of the University of Houston-Victoria
1-2 as an educational institution.
1-3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-4 SECTION 1. Section 111.96, Education Code, is amended to
1-5 read as follows:
1-6 Sec. 111.96. ESTABLISHMENT: SCOPE. The board of regents
1-7 shall establish an upper-level educational institution <center> in
1-8 the City of Victoria to be known as the University of
1-9 Houston-Victoria. The institution <center> shall be organized to
1-10 provide for the instruction of junior, senior, and master's level
1-11 students.
1-12 SECTION 2. Section 111.97, Education Code, is amended to
1-13 read as follows:
1-14 Sec. 111.97. FACILITIES; GRANTS. The board of regents may
1-15 accept and administer gifts and grants for the use and benefit of
1-16 the institution <center>.
1-17 SECTION 3. Section 111.98, Education Code, is amended to
1-18 read as follows:
1-19 Sec. 111.98. COURSES; ADMINISTRATION. (a) The board of
1-20 regents may prescribe courses leading to appropriate degrees and
1-21 adopt other rules necessary for the operation and management of the
1-22 institution <center>.
1-23 (b) The institution <center> is subject to the authority of
2-1 the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board<, Texas College and
2-2 University System>.
2-3 SECTION 4. The importance of this legislation and the
2-4 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
2-5 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
2-6 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
2-7 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
