1-19 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-20 AN ACT
1-21 relating to the designation of the University of Houston-Victoria
1-22 as an institution.
1-23 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-24 SECTION 1. Section 111.96, Education Code, is amended to
1-25 read as follows:
1-26 Sec. 111.96. ESTABLISHMENT: SCOPE. The board of regents
1-27 shall establish an upper-level institution <center> in the City of
1-28 Victoria to be known as the University of Houston-Victoria. The
1-29 institution <center> shall be organized to provide for the
1-30 instruction of junior, senior, and master's level students.
1-31 SECTION 2. Section 111.97, Education Code, is amended to
1-32 read as follows:
1-33 Sec. 111.97. FACILITIES; GRANTS. The board of regents may
1-34 accept and administer gifts and grants for the use and benefit of
1-35 the institution <center>.
1-36 SECTION 3. Section 111.98, Education Code, is amended to
1-37 read as follows:
1-38 Sec. 111.98. COURSES; ADMINISTRATION. (a) The board of
1-39 regents may prescribe courses leading to appropriate degrees and
1-40 adopt other rules necessary for the operation and management of the
1-41 institution <center>.
1-42 (b) The institution <center> is subject to the authority of
1-43 the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board<, Texas College and
1-44 University System>.
1-45 SECTION 4. The importance of this legislation and the
1-46 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-47 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-48 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-49 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
