                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-1                                AN ACT
    1-2  relating to the commissioning as peace officers of armed security
    1-3  personnel employed by a school district.
    1-4        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-5        SECTION 1.  Section 21.308(a), Education Code, is amended to
    1-6  read as follows:
    1-7        (a)  The governing board of any school district may employ
    1-8  security personnel for use in any school within its district when
    1-9  the board in its discretion determines that the personnel are
   1-10  necessary.  If the governing board authorizes the security
   1-11  personnel to carry a weapon, the security personnel must be
   1-12  commissioned as peace officers in the same manner as officers
   1-13  commissioned under Section 21.483 of this code.
   1-14        SECTION 2.  The importance of this legislation and the
   1-15  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
   1-16  emergency   and   an   imperative   public   necessity   that   the
   1-17  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
   1-18  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
