                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
                                        AN ACT
    1-1  relating to a prohibition on the requirement of a polygraph
    1-2  examination of a complainant as a condition of charging a defendant
    1-3  accused of certain criminal offenses.
    1-4        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-5        SECTION 1.  Chapter 15, Code of Criminal Procedure, is
    1-6  amended by adding Article 15.051 to read as follows:
    1-7        Art.  15.051.  POLYGRAPH EXAMINATION OF COMPLAINANT
    1-8  PROHIBITED.  A peace officer or attorney representing the state may
    1-9  not request or require a polygraph examination of a person who
   1-10  charges or seeks to charge in a complaint the commission of an
   1-11  offense under Section 21.11, 22.011, 22.021, or 25.02, Penal Code.
   1-12        SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, l993.
   1-13        SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
   1-14  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
   1-15  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
   1-16  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
   1-17  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
