1-21 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-22 AN ACT
1-23 relating to changing the name of the Texas Space Commission to the
1-24 Texas Aerospace Commission.
1-25 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-26 SECTION 1. The heading of Chapter 482, Government Code, is
1-27 amended to read as follows:
1-28 CHAPTER 482. TEXAS AEROSPACE <SPACE> COMMISSION
1-29 SECTION 2. Subsection (a), Section 482.001, Government Code,
1-30 is amended to read as follows:
1-31 (a) The Texas Aerospace <Space> Commission is an agency of
1-32 the state.
1-33 SECTION 3. Section 482.002, Government Code, is amended to
1-34 read as follows:
1-35 Sec. 482.002. SUNSET PROVISION. The Texas Aerospace <Space>
1-36 Commission is subject to Chapter 325 (Texas Sunset Act). Unless
1-37 continued in existence as provided by that chapter, the commission
1-38 is abolished and this chapter expires September 1, 2003.
1-39 SECTION 4. Subsection (d), Section 482.003, Government Code,
1-40 is amended to read as follows:
1-41 (d) The commission may solicit and accept public and private
1-42 donations and grants. All funds received under this subsection
1-43 shall be deposited in the state treasury to the credit of a special
1-44 account to be named the Texas Aerospace <Space> Commission account.
1-45 The account may be used to administer the functions of the
1-46 commission. If at any time general revenue is used to fund the
1-47 commission, a separate account in the state treasury shall be used
1-48 to deposit the general revenue. This account shall be used to fund
1-49 the functions of the commission and any other function of state
1-50 government determined by the General Appropriations Act.
1-51 SECTION 5. Subsections (a), (b), and (f), Section 5l,
1-52 Chapter 88, General Laws, Acts of the 41st Legislature, 2nd Called
1-53 Session, 1929 (Article 6675a-5l, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes),
1-54 are amended to read as follows:
1-55 (a) The department shall design and provide for the issuance
1-56 of special Texas Aerospace <Space> Commission plates for passenger
1-57 cars and light commercial motor vehicles having a manufacturer's
1-58 rated carrying capacity of one ton or less.
1-59 (b) The license plates shall bear the name "Texas Aerospace
1-60 <Space> Commission" and be of a color, quality, and design approved
1-61 by the Texas Aerospace <Space> Commission.
1-62 (f) The department shall deposit $25 of each fee collected
1-63 under this section in the state treasury to the credit of an
1-64 account in the general revenue fund to be known as the Texas
1-65 Aerospace <Space> Commission account. Money in the account may be
1-66 used only for support of programs administered or supported by the
1-67 Texas Aerospace <Space> Commission. Fees deposited under this
1-68 subsection are supplementary and are not income for purposes of
2-1 reducing general revenue appropriations to the Texas Aerospace
2-2 <Space> Commission in the General Appropriations Act.
2-3 SECTION 6. Any reference in law to the Texas Space
2-4 Commission means the Texas Aerospace Commission.
2-5 SECTION 7. The importance of this legislation and the
2-6 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
2-7 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
2-8 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
2-9 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
2-10 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
2-11 passage, and it is so enacted.
