  5-7           Amend S.B. 555 by adding a new section to Section 2 of the
  5-8     bill to read as follows:
  5-9           Section 2.  Section 6, Texas Health Maintenance Organization
 5-10     Act (Section 20A.06, Vernon's Texas Insurance Code) is amended by
 5-11     adding a new Section (d) to read as follows:
 5-12           (d)  unless this section and the powers specified in section
 5-13     (a) are specifically amended, no other law or rule shall be
 5-14     construed to prohibit or restrict a group model health maintenance
 5-15     organization from (1)  selectively contracting with or declining to
 5-16     contract with any or all providers as the health maintenance
 5-17     organization deems necessary, (2)  contracting for or declining to
 5-18     contract for an individual health care service or full range of
 5-19     health care services as the health maintenance organization deems
 5-20     necessary provided that such service or services may be legally
 5-21     provided by the contracting provider, or (3)  requiring enrolled
 5-22     members of the health maintenance organization who wish to obtain
 5-23     the services covered by the health maintenance organization use the
 5-24     providers specified by the health maintenance organization.  As
 5-25     used herein, a group model health maintenance organization is a
 5-26     health maintenance organization which provides the majority of its
 5-27     professional services through a single group medical practice and
  6-1     such group medical practice is formally affiliated with the medical
  6-2     school component of a Texas, state-supported, public college or
  6-3     university.
