                                        AN ACT
    1-1  relating to application of the Texas Health Maintenance
    1-2  Organization Act to hospital districts.
    1-3        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-4        SECTION 1.  Subsection (l), Section 2, Texas Health
    1-5  Maintenance Organization Act (Article 20A.02, Vernon's Texas
    1-6  Insurance Code), is amended to read as follows:
    1-7        (l)  "Person" means any natural or artificial person,
    1-8  including, but not limited to, individuals, partnerships,
    1-9  associations, organizations, trusts, hospital districts, or
   1-10  corporations.
   1-11        SECTION 2.  Subchapter C, Chapter 281, Health and Safety
   1-12  Code, is amended by adding Section 281.0515 to read as follows:
   1-13        Sec. 281.0515.  PROCEDURES FOR HEALTH MAINTENANCE
   1-14  ORGANIZATION.  A district may establish a health maintenance
   1-15  organization in accordance with the Texas Health Maintenance
   1-16  Organization Act (Chapter 20A, Vernon's Texas Insurance Code) to
   1-17  provide or arrange for health care services for the residents of
   1-18  the district.
   1-19        SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
   1-20  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
   1-21  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
   1-22  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
   1-23  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
    2-1  and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
    2-2  passage, and it is so enacted.
