1-20 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-21 AN ACT
1-22 relating to the duties of the Texas Engineering Extension Service.
1-23 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-24 SECTION 1. Subsection (a), Section 86.16, Education Code, is
1-25 amended to read as follows:
1-26 (a) The Texas A&M University System shall conduct and
1-27 maintain a firemen's training school through the Texas Engineering
1-28 Extension Service as a unit of the university system in the manner
1-29 deemed expedient and advisable by the system's board of regents.
1-30 The Texas Engineering Extension Service is designated as the agency
1-31 of the state to conduct fire protection, rescue, leadership, and
1-32 management training on a statewide basis to paid and volunteer
1-33 firefighters and shall serve as the recognized statewide fire and
1-34 rescue training agency liaison to the National Fire Academy.
1-35 Nothing in this section shall prohibit a municipality or an
1-36 institution of higher education from providing fire protection,
1-37 rescue, leadership, and management training on a local basis.
1-38 SECTION 2. The importance of this legislation and the
1-39 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-40 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-41 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-42 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
1-43 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
1-44 passage, and it is so enacted.
