A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
1-1 relating to programs that a justice court may require a child to
1-2 attend if the court finds that the child engaged in truant conduct.
1-3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-4 SECTION 1. Section 54.021, Family Code, is amended by adding
1-5 Subsection (e) to read as follows:
1-6 (e) If a school district is authorized by law to provide a
1-7 program that a child may be required to attend under Subsection (d)
1-8 of this section, a county, juvenile board, or community college may
1-9 agree to provide the program jointly with a school district if the
1-10 county includes territory of the school district or if the juvenile
1-11 board serves, or the community college is located in, a county that
1-12 includes territory of the school district. Each entity subject to
1-13 the agreement shall assist in the provision of the program
1-14 according to terms approved by the governing board of each of those
1-15 entities.
1-16 SECTION 2. The importance of this legislation and the
1-17 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-18 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-19 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-20 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
1-21 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
1-22 passage, and it is so enacted.
