                                        AN ACT
    1-1  relating to the location of certain justice of the peace courts.
    1-2        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-3        SECTION 1.  Subsection (d), Section 292.001, Local Government
    1-4  Code, is amended to read as follows:
    1-5        (d)  A justice of the peace court may not be housed or
    1-6  conducted in a building located outside the court's precinct except
    1-7  as provided by Section 27.051(f), Government Code, or unless the
    1-8  justice of the peace court is situated in the county courthouse in
    1-9  a county with a population of at least 220,000 persons but no more
   1-10  than 230,000 persons.
   1-11        SECTION 2.  Subsection (f), Section 27.051, Government Code,
   1-12  is amended to read as follows:
   1-13        (f)  A justice of the peace of a precinct in a county with a
   1-14  population of less than 30,000 may hold court in the county
   1-15  courthouse or another facility provided under Section 292.002(a),
   1-16  Local Government Code, for that purpose.  If requested by the
   1-17  justice, the commissioners court of the county may provide and
   1-18  furnish a suitable place in the courthouse or another facility
   1-19  provided under Section 292.002(a), Local Government Code, for the
   1-20  justice to hold court.
   1-21        SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1993.
   1-22        SECTION 4.  The importance of this legislation and the
   1-23  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
    2-1  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
    2-2  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
    2-3  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
