                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-1                                AN ACT
    1-2  relating to candidacy for two or more offices to be voted on at one
    1-3  or more elections held on the same day.
    1-4        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-5        SECTION 1.  Section 52.034, Election Code, is amended to read
    1-6  as follows:
    1-7        Sec. 52.034.  Name on Ballot More Than Once.  A candidate's
    1-8  name may not appear more than once on the ballot except as a
    1-9  candidate for<:>
   1-10              <(1)>  two or more offices that are permitted by law to
   1-11  be held by the same person<; or>
   1-12              <(2)  the office of president or vice-president of the
   1-13  United States and another office>.
   1-14        SECTION 2.  Section 141.033(c), Election Code, is repealed.
   1-15        SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1993.
   1-16        SECTION 4.  The importance of this legislation and the
   1-17  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
   1-18  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
   1-19  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
   1-20  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
