                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
                                        AN ACT
    1-1  relating to examinations for interpreter certification conducted by
    1-2  the Board for Evaluation of Interpreters.
    1-3        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-4        SECTION 1.  Subsection (i), Section 81.007, Human Resources
    1-5  Code, is amended to read as follows:
    1-6        (i)  <The board shall conduct the interpreter examinations in
    1-7  Austin at the commission's office or in other space owned or leased
    1-8  by the state that can be obtained free of charge.>  The board shall
    1-9  determine the frequency with which it will conduct the interpreter
   1-10  examinations.  The board shall conduct the interpreter
   1-11  examinations:
   1-12              (1)  in Austin at the commission's office or in other
   1-13  space owned or leased by the state that can be obtained free of
   1-14  charge; or
   1-15              (2)  in other cities in this state in space that can be
   1-16  obtained free of charge.
   1-17        SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1993.
   1-18        SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
   1-19  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
   1-20  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
   1-21  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
   1-22  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
