No. 1382 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT 1-1 relating to changing the date of a political subdivision's general 1-2 election for officers. 1-3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-4 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 41, Election Code, is 1-5 amended by adding Section 41.0052 to read as follows: 1-6 Sec. 41.0052. CHANGING GENERAL ELECTION DATE. (a) The 1-7 governing body of a political subdivision other than a county may, 1-8 not later than December 31, 1993, change the date on which it holds 1-9 its general election for officers to another uniform election date 1-10 prescribed by Section 41.001(a). An election on the new date may 1-11 not be held before 1994. 1-12 (b) A governing body changing an election date under this 1-13 section shall adjust the terms of office to conform to the new 1-14 election date. 1-15 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1993. 1-16 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the 1-17 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-18 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-19 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-20 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
