Subchapter A, Chapter 41, Election Code, is 1-25 amended by adding Section 41.0052 to read as follows: 1-26 Sec. 41.0052. CHANGING GENERAL ELECTION DATE. (a) The 1-27 governing body of a political subdivision other than a county may, 1-28 not later than December 31, 1993, change the date on which it holds 1-29 its general election for officers to another uniform election date 1-30 prescribed by Section 41.001(a). An election on the new date may 1-31 not be held before 1994. 1-32 (b) A governing body changing an election date under this 1-33 section shall adjust the terms of office to conform to the new 1-34 election date. 1-35 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1993. 1-36 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the 1-37 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-38 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-39 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-40 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended. 1-41 * * * * * 1-42 Austin, 1-43 Texas 1-44 May 12, 1993 1-45 Hon.
