S.C.R. No. 18
                             SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas takes pride in
    1-2  joining with the Quilter's Guild of Dallas, Incorporated, in
    1-3  recognizing March 20, 1993, as Texas Quilting Day; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Since the earliest days of our country, women have
    1-5  been active in the art of quilting; quilts have been made to create
    1-6  warmth and beauty, to teach subjects such as math and history to
    1-7  children, to make philosophical and political statements, and to
    1-8  preserve stories and materials of the past; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Some of the quilts created in earlier days are
   1-10  preserved in museums, or are in private collections, and are
   1-11  treasured now by citizens across our country; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Today, countless individuals are making valuable
   1-13  contributions to their communities by providing quilts for ill or
   1-14  needy children and quilting for fund raising projects for churches
   1-15  and schools or other worthy causes; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Texas Quilting Day provides an opportunity for
   1-17  Texans to pay tribute to their heritage and to celebrate together
   1-18  and give support to the time-honored tradition of quilting; now,
   1-19  therefore, be it
   1-20        RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas
   1-21  hereby declare March 20, 1993, as Texas Quilting Day and urge all
   1-22  citizens to celebrate the special contributions made to our society
   1-23  by quilters everywhere; and, be it further
    2-1        RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for the
    2-2  Quilter's Guild of Dallas, Incorporated, as a token of regard from
    2-3  the Texas Legislature.
