SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
1-1 WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas takes pride in
1-2 recognizing Booker T. Washington High School of the Houston
1-3 Independent School District on the grand occasion of its 100th
1-4 anniversary which is being celebrated on February 4, 1993; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Booker T. Washington High School will begin its
1-6 Centennial Year Celebration with a special Kick-Off Program in the
1-7 school auditorium, and alumni, community members, friends, and
1-8 educators will continue to celebrate the entire year with various
1-9 planned activities; and
1-10 WHEREAS, Spearheading this momentous and historical occasion
1-11 is Mrs. Lullelia Harrison who is a 1928 graduate; she and other
1-12 alumni members have planned events such as Recognition of Retired
1-13 "Golden" Teachers, The 100th Centennial, a Centennial Banquet, and
1-14 "Eagle Walk" Open House; and
1-15 WHEREAS, Education has been recognized as important to the
1-16 development of Texas since the early days of the Republic; and
1-17 WHEREAS, The oldest black high school in the City of Houston,
1-18 Booker T. Washington High School was established in 1893 and is
1-19 today a mirror of the early determination and hard work of its
1-20 founders; and
1-21 WHEREAS, Through the years, thousands of students have
1-22 received a superior education from the dedicated and talented
1-23 faculty and administration; and
2-1 WHEREAS, For 100 years, Booker T. Washington High School has
2-2 exemplified all that is excellent in education with its innovative
2-3 approaches to teaching and its commitment to a rich educational
2-4 program for its students; now, therefore, be it
2-5 RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas
2-6 hereby extend sincere congratulations to Booker T. Washington High
2-7 School as it celebrates 100 years of providing a superb education
2-8 to the children of Texas; and, be it further
2-9 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for
2-10 Booker T. Washington High School as a token of esteem from the
2-11 Texas Legislature.
