                             SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, The recent passing of Iva Lee Graham on January 29,
    1-2  1993, at the age of 83, has brought a profound loss to the many
    1-3  friends and relatives of this beloved woman; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, A native Texan, she was born July 16, 1909, in the
    1-5  Nile Community and was the youngest of five children born to Will
    1-6  and Lula Clark; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Mrs. Graham was graduated from San Marcos Academy as
    1-8  a young woman and went on to earn a bachelor's degree from
    1-9  Southwestern University in Georgetown; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, In 1931 she was united in marriage to Wesley Graham
   1-11  of Thorndale, and the couple enjoyed an exceptionally happy and
   1-12  rewarding union until her husband's passing in 1948; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, A devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Graham was blessed
   1-14  with three fine children, and, later in life, she enjoyed the
   1-15  affection of six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, In addition, Mrs. Graham was a talented and
   1-17  well-loved educator who began her career as a teacher in the Nile
   1-18  country school where she taught for three years before joining the
   1-19  Thorndale school system in 1943; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, A respected member of the educational community
   1-21  there until her retirement in 1978, this admirable woman remained
   1-22  with the Thorndale schools for 34 years and served as an elementary
   1-23  school principal for the last 20 years of her tenure; and
   1-24        WHEREAS, Throughout her remarkable career, Mrs. Graham helped
    2-1  to guide generations of students, offering extra assistance when
    2-2  needed and taking pride in the accomplishments of each pupil;
    2-3  highly regarded by parents and students alike, she earned a special
    2-4  place in the hearts of all who were privileged to know her and
    2-5  served as an inspiration to her colleagues in the teaching
    2-6  profession; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, Even in retirement, Mrs. Graham continued to give of
    2-8  herself, serving as an active member of Trinity United Methodist
    2-9  Church; and
   2-10        WHEREAS, Iva Lee Graham was a woman of rare warmth and spirit
   2-11  who was dearly loved by her family and many friends; though she
   2-12  will be deeply missed, her memory will long endure in the hearts of
   2-13  those whose lives she touched during her years on this earth; now,
   2-14  therefore, be it
   2-15        RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas
   2-16  hereby pay tribute to the life of Iva Lee Graham and extend sincere
   2-17  sympathy to the members of her family:  her daughter and
   2-18  son-in-law, Bette Lee and Ike Youngblood of Cameron; her sons and
   2-19  daughters-in-law, Billy and Joy Graham of Thorndale and Dr. Charles
   2-20  Graham and his wife, Nancy, of Elgin; her grandchildren, David and
   2-21  Gayle Graham of Elgin, Donna and Calvin Lee of Round Rock, Mary and
   2-22  Chris Dyess of Thorndale, Sidney and Kim Youngblood of Temple, John
   2-23  Youngblood of Cameron, and Sarah Youngblood of Cameron; her
   2-24  great-grandchildren, Tyler and Casey Graham of Elgin and Christin
   2-25  and John Clark Dyess of Thorndale; and her three nieces and six
   2-26  nephews; and, be it further
   2-27        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    3-1  prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas
    3-2  House of Representatives and the Texas Senate adjourn this day,
    3-3  they do so in memory of Iva Lee Graham.
