S.C.R. No. 31
                             SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is proud to
    1-2  recognize the poster artists of Austin and to declare February 25,
    1-3  1993, as Austin Poster Artist Day; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, For more than a quarter of a century, Austin poster
    1-5  artists have chronicled the evolution of popular music with
    1-6  eloquence and rare vitality and scope; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Local music and poster art have become intertwined
    1-8  and have been successful in promoting the grass roots styles and
    1-9  traditions for which Austin has been famous since the mid-1960s;
   1-10  and
   1-11        WHEREAS, During the 1970s, Austin artists such as Jim
   1-12  Franklin and Michael Priest, as well as their peers, created a
   1-13  poster style that was uniquely Texan; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, During the 1980s and early 1990s, while other
   1-15  cities' poster art was all but dormant, the City of Austin
   1-16  continued to lead the way in the poster art field; the Austin
   1-17  artists have been faithful to the spirit of the music they
   1-18  represent and have continued to challenge and to break new ground
   1-19  in their field; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Austin poster art is today held in high regard
   1-21  worldwide and has been crafted by talented individuals who have a
   1-22  deep appreciation for music and a desire to express and promote the
   1-23  traditions and culture of Austin; now, therefore, be it
    2-1        RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas
    2-2  hereby declare February 25, 1993, as Austin Poster Artist Day and
    2-3  commend Austin poster artists for their contributions to their
    2-4  community; and, be it further
    2-5        RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for them
    2-6  as an expression of esteem from the Texas Legislature.
